General Theme
General Purpose of the course will be the relationship between architecture and geopolitics. In particular, we develop the following themes:
1. Archipelago as geography and geopolitics open.
The configuration of the archipelago, in contemporary geopolitics is an excellent metaphor for a possible new logic of relations between states and between cultures. This logic while preserving differences and traditions, provides for the sharing of a common condition and thus a geographic destiny common. The archipelago is now a powerful metaphor to contrast to a closed world of identity, of ghettos and enclaves protected. But also a paradigm that accepts instances of reinforcement of individual identity and appreciation of differences in culture and language that globalization produces.
2. The geopolitics of the great
events and geography of the places the contemporary geopolitics is a geopolitical events and flows. The decisions, proclamations, the advertisements conveyed by the media on the one hand, the flows of ideas, goods, images, and other men, tend to annihilate the identity and strength of physical and geographical locations. They tend to standardize the world places, transforming it into a series of standardized format. Developing the paradigm of the archipelago, giving strength through the architecture of a polycentric system of places of excellence in the dialogue between them may instead be a strategy today to imagine a process of globalization also from local networks, traditions of the populations established, from the cultures and languages \u200b\u200bthat practices have a long history rooted in the living spaces of our world
3. Super-Architecture and Places
Contemporary architecture produces, among other things, areas that once made immediately acquire an extraordinary media power, becoming real "simulacri" nell'immaginario collettivo.
I resort turistici, vere e proprie enclaves protette e isolate riprodotte ovunque nel pianeta, rappresentano un format ripetibile ovunque e totalmente estraneo to local cultures, natural materials and architectural traditions of the places where "land". Sardinia is a few years experimenting with a different model of tourism based on the relationship between leisure and forms of involvement in the daily life of the place. In addition to the model farm now widespread, are growing settlements and towns that offer tourists the opportunity to participate in field experiences in local crafts, music, artistic production. Understand the difficult balance between the need to complete the major attractions of tourist flows and the need to build a wide network of tourism experiences attentive to local conditions, give this a balanced representation architectural and aesthetic, is one of the great challenges of contemporary life.
points of the project
The course will address the definition of some scenarios of transformation for the former base of nuclear submarines of the U.S. Navy. The base, which includes two large yards, a wharf and a long pier, and a number of buildings and warehouses, is located on the western side of the island of Santo Stefano, a small island in the archipelago of La Maddalena.
